I may be gone, but you are not forgotten.
St Patrick’s Day is an annual observance in Australia. It is not a public holiday here, however, it is such a popular event that many restaurants hold St. Patrick’s Day breakfasts and lunches. Many pubs, particularly Irish pubs, hold parties in the evening, where local bands play Irish music and green drinks are served.
It serves as a tribute to Ireland and one of its patron saints, and many Australians remember the Irish settlement and culture on this day, as the Irish were among the first Europeans to settle here. Some were convicts, but more than 300,000 Irish settlers migrated to Australia between 1840 and 1914, many of which came to escape famine in their homeland. A good percentage of today's Australians are believed to have some Irish ancestry.
I hope your St. Patrick's Day weekend is a great one!
